The College Team Season event #2 was held in fun, clean 2-4 waves and had 25 college teams competing. University of California Santa Barbara A team enjoyed a blockbuster weekend by outscoring their nearest opponent by 81 points. The team managed to place three of six surfers in the College Mens final, and both their Longboarder and Woman also made the finals. Cal State San Marcos A team placed second with 113 points followed by San Diego State A team with 111 points and UCSD A with 102 points. UCSB A team remains undefeated thus far this season with two events remaining.

The College Mens division clicked into high gear with Chris Smith from CSUSM A team taking the win. Chris surfed double duty as he also competed in the College Longboard division. Taking second was SDSU’s team captain Nick Greeninger followed by Matt Johnson from UCSB A in third, Jarred Williams from Mira Costa Red in fourth, Jon Mangiagli from UCSB A in fifth and Brad Margol also from UCSB A in sixth. Chris Smith will now be tied for first place with Marty Weinstein who lost in the semi-finals in the overall College Mens ratings.

The College Women’s final featured top Collegiate Womens competitor Lauren Sweeney from Mira Costa Red team taking the win. Lauren has won multiple Collegiate Womens Nationals titles and was definitely at the top of her game. Placing second was Hawaii transplant Lipoa Kahaleuahi who is now attending UCSB and surfs for the A team. Event #1 winner Allie Brown, also from Hawaii was surfing for San Diego State’s A team and placed third. With this win, Lauren Sweeney will move into first place in the overall College Womens ratings.

In the hotly contested College Longboard final another former NSSA National Champion Christian Clark from CSUSM B team took home the gold. Christian surfed clean with nice footwork and hot moves. Following in second was Cory Hartwyk from UCSB A team and another former NSSA National Champion Troy Mothershead surfing for Point Loma’s A team in third. Kevin Osborne who placed fourth in this event will remain in first place in the overall College Longboard ratings.
