Southeast North Open and Explorer event #6 was held on January 18, 2014 at New Smyrna Beach Inlet. The competitors battled in the extremely cold weather conditions in fun, contestable surf. A few surfers enjoyed standout performances taking double wins in their divisions. Nikita Pandelos pulled out double victories in the Open Juniors and Explorer Longboard categories. Little man Kaleb Kirshenbaum was shredding taking first places in both the Open Boys and Mini Grom divisions. Hannah Blevins has been stepping up her surfing this year and it shows clinched both wins in the Open and Explorer Girls with Sophie Falzone also surfing really well to take a close second. Jake Hembree took home first place honors in the Explorer Menehuene. Braeden Kopec claimed the win in the Super Groms which should clinch the conference title for him in the division. Camen Bowman was the winner in the Explorer Boy’s division with Iron man Will Davis close behind in second. Cobie Gittner captured the win in the Explorer Juniors division. Last season’s Most Improved Surfer Caleb Goepfert continues to improve his skills and it showed in the Men’s final where he ripped to victory. Mr. Cory Howell took the win in the Explorer Mens. Jazmine Dean took home the win in the Explorer Women, Open Women and Womens Longboard. It was a great contest and we look forward to seeing you all back at New Smyrna Beach for contest #7 on February 15th!
