NSSA - National Scholastic Surfing Association

The National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage and assist its members in their interest to learn and develop the fundamentals and skills of surfing competition while competing in structured and quality events. The NSSA promotes the qualities of discipline and competitive excellence while supporting the merits of academic achievement to young surfers. The NSSA strives to provide a fun surfing experience for all of its members.

The NSSA is one of the few national youth sports organizations that require its participants to maintain academic standards in order to compete. Since 1978, the NSSA program philosophy has been that athletics and scholastics go hand in hand. More than 80 NSSA events are run nationwide that culminate with the annual National Championships which is regarded as the highest profile youth surfing event in America.

Here is a list of the sponsors that have contributed to the National Scholastic Surfing Association. We would like to thank them for their continued support of our surfing events throughout the year.

NSSA NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

a. A non-profit segment of the NSSA, established to collect funds and award scholarships to qualified student/surfers.

b. Scholarship applications to be offered to all competitive student members.

c. Awards to be used for assisting students in post High School education and training.

d. Awards will remain in the NSSA scholarship fund in the recipients name until requested for post High School education. Funds will be mailed upon request directly to the recipient s school. Funds can be given directly to the recipient who must provide official receipts from the school to the NSSA.

e. Awards Process. Consideration will be given to the following: -Scholastic Achievement* (improvement & academic promise).

Community and/or NSSA Service
Career goals
Applicants letter of intent
Official transcript from school currently attending
Letters (2) of recommendation

*Applicant must carry a minimum of a 3.0 GPA for the current school year.

f. Awards are presented at the annual Nationals Banquet.

 



Here is where the National Scholastic Surfing Association features its scholarship and special award programs, most improved and most sportmanlike competitors.

The NSSA administers a scholarship fund which is set up to assist our surfing members in pursuit of education. The funds for the Scholarship Program are donated by sponsors, companies, concerned individuals, fund raising activities, etc. at the national and local level. The NSSA Scholarship Program is one of the basic components of the NSSA as it helps us promote individuals which we feel will be outstanding representatives of the NSSA and the sport of surfing.

Each year NSSA Conference Directors select surfers and/or bodyboarders who have exhibited a outstanding improvement in their competivive surfing. These surfers are recognized in the NSSA National Championships program and honored at the National Awards Banquet. Here is a listing of recent recipients of this award.
