NSSA - National Scholastic Surfing Association

The National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage and assist its members in their interest to learn and develop the fundamentals and skills of surfing competition while competing in structured and quality events. The NSSA promotes the qualities of discipline and competitive excellence while supporting the merits of academic achievement to young surfers. The NSSA strives to provide a fun surfing experience for all of its members.

The NSSA is one of the few national youth sports organizations that require its participants to maintain academic standards in order to compete. Since 1978, the NSSA program philosophy has been that athletics and scholastics go hand in hand. More than 80 NSSA events are run nationwide that culminate with the annual National Championships which is regarded as the highest profile youth surfing event in America.

2023 EAST COAST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS

**Braeden Kopec claimed a trifecta of titles winning the Open Mens, Explorer Mens and Explorer Juniors bringing his career Regional Title count up to nine.

**Braeden Kopec goes back-to-back-to-back in the Open Mens division winning three consecutive Regional Titles, which is a new NSSA record.

**Lanea Mons collects a quadfecta of Regional Titles winning the Open Womens, Open Girls, Explorer Womens and Explorer Girls which brings her career title count up to six. She successfully defended her Explorer Womens and Explorer Girls Titles from 2022.

**Lanea Mons earned both the highest heat total – a 17.50 and tied for the highest wave score – a 9.33 of the 2023 East Coast Regional Championships in her Explorer Womens semifinal.

**Asher Eastwood was also the top wave scorer of the event tied with Lanea Mons earning a 9.33 in his Open Mini Grom semifinal.

**Auburn Hilley collects double Regional Titles in the Open Super Girls and Open Mini Grom Girls divisions bringing her career title count up to three. She successfully defended her Open Mini Grom Girls Title from 2022.

**The University of North Florida clinched their seventh consecutive Regional Title in the College Championships.
