NSSA - National Scholastic Surfing Association

The National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage and assist its members in their interest to learn and develop the fundamentals and skills of surfing competition while competing in structured and quality events. The NSSA promotes the qualities of discipline and competitive excellence while supporting the merits of academic achievement to young surfers. The NSSA strives to provide a fun surfing experience for all of its members.

The NSSA is one of the few national youth sports organizations that require its participants to maintain academic standards in order to compete. Since 1978, the NSSA program philosophy has been that athletics and scholastics go hand in hand. More than 80 NSSA events are run nationwide that culminate with the annual National Championships which is regarded as the highest profile youth surfing event in America.

EXPLORER EVENT #5  

NEW SMYRNA BEACH INLET, FLORIDA

The Southeast/North Open and Explorer event #5 was held in challenging but contestable conditions with 15 mph winds and choppy surf. All the surfers were ripping including several double winners for the day. Braeden Kopec took the wins in both the Open Mini Grom and Super Grom divisions. Robbie Goodwin was another double division winner sealing first places in the Open Boys and Explorer Menehuenes. Evan Brownell came out strong at this event claiming double wins in the Explorer Mens and Juniors. Maddy Malizia was destroying it in the Explorer Womens and Womens Longboard. Hannah Blevins surfed solid all day taking second in the Explorer Womens, but came back to take two impressive victories in the Open Womens and Explorer Girls. Ava McGowan took the win in the Open Girls. Newcomer Dylan Driebelbis took his first NSSA win in the Explorer Boys. Christian Mocny sealed his first win of the season in Open Mens. Ben Wingate was on fire in the Open Juniors. Jason Motes took the Seniors win while Gary Allred came back and won the Masters. Charlie Hajek edged out the victory in Super Seniors in a tight battle with runner-up Chris Brown

Event #6 for the Southeast/North Conference will be held at New Smyrna Beach Inlet on January 14, 2017.
