NSSA - National Scholastic Surfing Association

The National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage and assist its members in their interest to learn and develop the fundamentals and skills of surfing competition while competing in structured and quality events. The NSSA promotes the qualities of discipline and competitive excellence while supporting the merits of academic achievement to young surfers. The NSSA strives to provide a fun surfing experience for all of its members.

The NSSA is one of the few national youth sports organizations that require its participants to maintain academic standards in order to compete. Since 1978, the NSSA program philosophy has been that athletics and scholastics go hand in hand. More than 80 NSSA events are run nationwide that culminate with the annual National Championships which is regarded as the highest profile youth surfing event in America.

PERFORMERS OF THE EVENT

Cole Houshmand: Cole took command at Seaside Reef tearing it up heat after heat in both the Open Mens and Open Juniors divisions. In a total of eight heats surfed he won six of them. He took a dominating victory in the Juniors (his second win of the season in Open Juniors) along with a super impressive runner-up finish in the premier Mens division. He posted the highest wave score of Saturday’s divisions with an excellent 9.53.

 

Levi Slawson: Levi was on fire at his homebreak of Seaside Reef scoring the event’s only perfect 10 in the Open Boys semis. In those semis, he also posted the event’s highest total score of a 19.20 out of a possible 20. He took command in the Open Boys final sealing his first win of the season along with stepping up with a big 4th place finals showing in the hotly contested Open Juniors division.

 

Kirra Pinkerton: After a big victory a couple weeks ago at the Northwest Open at Steamer Lane, Kirra has been surfing strong and confident. She was killing it at Seaside Reef claiming her first win ever in the premier Southwest Open Womens division and also placed runner up in the Open Girls.
