NSSA - National Scholastic Surfing Association

The National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage and assist its members in their interest to learn and develop the fundamentals and skills of surfing competition while competing in structured and quality events. The NSSA promotes the qualities of discipline and competitive excellence while supporting the merits of academic achievement to young surfers. The NSSA strives to provide a fun surfing experience for all of its members.

The NSSA is one of the few national youth sports organizations that require its participants to maintain academic standards in order to compete. Since 1978, the NSSA program philosophy has been that athletics and scholastics go hand in hand. More than 80 NSSA events are run nationwide that culminate with the annual National Championships which is regarded as the highest profile youth surfing event in America.

CONDITIONS:  3-4 FEET AND BEAUTIFUL WEATHER

You couldn’t ask for a better weekend for sun and surf than we had for the Southeast/North event #2 at New Smyrna. The competitors were treated to fun 3-4 foot waves with beautiful with beautiful weather. Our surfers were ripping up the surf with many standout performances and multiple division winners. Young female up-and-comer Ava McGowan dominated the Super Girls final with the highest heat totals of the contest posting a 14-point total score. She also came out strong in the Explorer Girls taking her second win of the contest. Little man Braeden Kopec kicked off the season with double wins in the Open Mini-Grom and Explorer Super Grom divisions. Evan Brownell was on fire sealing double wins in the Explorer Juniors and premier Open Mens division. Evan’s younger brother Noah took command at the event with an impressive 3 division victories in Open Boys, Explorer Boys and Explorer Menehueue. Maddy Maliza was another double winner with first places in the prestigious Open Womens and the Explorer Womens divisions. Other Explorer winners were Nikita Pandelos in Mens, Gary Allred in Masters, Frank Gilday in Super Seniors, Jason Motes in Longboard and Elena Sopranzi in Womens Longboard. Iron Man of the Day award goes to Logan Hofstetter surfing back-to-back heats!

 

It was a great contest and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone back for event #3 on October 17th and New Smyrna Beach!
