SOUTHEAST NORTH KICKS OFF THE 2014-15 SEASON IN NEW SMYRNA BEACH

NSSA SOUTHEAST/NORT CONFERENCE

EXPLORER EVENT #1

NEW SMYRNA BEACH INLET, FLORIDA

SEPTEMBER 13, 2014

By: Linda Johnston

With small, contestable conditions the Southeast/North conference kicked off contest #1 at New Smyrna Beach Inlet. The conference enjoyed a host of new rippers to the NSSA enjoying a great day of competition. Robbie McCormick stepped up big to open up his season campaign taking an outstanding victory in the Open Mens and a runner up finish in the Open Juniors. Our 2014 National Explorer Mens Champion Cobie Gittner was back in action looking stronger than ever taking the win in the Explorer Mens. We witnessed several  double winners including  Kelton Beardall who won the Open Juniors and Explorer Boys divisions and Sophie Falzone who surfed super impressively in the season opener with a double division sweep in Open and Explorer Womens.  The Southeast/North welcomed a new hot grom Ava McGowan to competition and she turned heads with double wins in the Open Mini Groms and Explorer Girls. Lily Whatley is on a mission to get to Nationals this year and she showed it taking the win in the Womens Longboard and and a runner up in the Open Womens.  Newcomer Stella Marsch was another young standout winning the Explorer Super Groms.  James LaCour made the most of the small conditions taking an impressive victory in the Explorer Juniors. Other winners were Hannah Blevins in the Open Girls, Ryan Huckabee in the Open Boys and Logan Hofstetter in the Explorer Menehuene.  Charlie Hajak is always fired up to compete and he surfed strong to take the Seniors with former conference director Leon Johnston coming in a close second.

It was fun day of competition and we look forward to our event #2 at New Smyrna Beach on October 11th!
