OPEN AND EXPLORER EVENT #2

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FLORIDA

SEPTEMBER 28, 2013

by: Linda Johnston

Southeast/North Open and Explorer event #2 was held at New Smyrna Beach Inlet on Saturday, September 28.  Waves were small but contestable and the conditions improved with incoming tide. The contest had several double winners for the day including East Coast Champions Robbie McCormick, Blake Elmore and Braidlyn Cunningham. The highest heat scores of the day were posted by the Elmore brothers Chase and Blake Elmore. Chase ripped two wave scores of 9.0 and 8.0 in the Explorer Boys final earning an outstanding 17.0 total score. Younger brother Blake posted the highest score of the day-a perfect 10 in the Open Boy’s final to seal the win.  Blake also claimed the victory in the Menehuene division.  Robbie McCormick had an impressive day surfing up into the Open Men’s division where he took home an impressive win on the strength of a solid 8.2 wave score. Robbie backed his huge Men’s victory with a win in the Open Juniors.  Little man Kaleb Kirshenbaum took his second win of the season in the Mini-Groms.  Nikita Pandelos took his first win of the season in the Explorer Juniors division. NSSA newcomer Gavin Silver won the Exploxer Longboard. The Open Women’s victory went Shealyn Cunningham with her sister Braidyn taking double wins in the Explorer Girls and Open Girls.

We look forward to seeing everyone for event #3 at Bethune Beach in New Smyrna on October 26!
