TOMMY MCKEOWN STEALING THE SHOW

(Huntington Beach, Ca – September 19, 2013) -- The 2013-14 NSSA Gold Coast Conference headed to Ventura on September 14th and 15th for the second doubleheader of the 2013-14 season. Events 3 and 4 were held at Ventura Harbor’s “New Jetty” with fun surf conditions on offer for the competitors. Waves ranged from fair to good with a combination of southwest and west wind swell producing rippable chest high lefts and plenty of scoring opportunity. Nice Indian summer conditions prevailed under warm sunny skies and clean morning surf and the classic “Ventura” brisk afternoon sea breezes.

DAVIS FREUD THROWING SOME WATER!

Highlights from Gold Coast Conference Events 3 and 4

Another great weekend of competition and high scoring rides were witnessed from the Gold Coast kids. Many kids earned breakthrough wins and finals appearances with impressive surfing displays.

For the second consecutive Gold Coast weekend, 12-year-old Tommy McKeown was on fire adding three more victories to his superb season thus far. He captured double wins in the Menehuene and Boys divisions in event 3 and the Menehuene victory in event 4. He also posted the highest heat score of the weekend-a 17.5 two-wave total in the event 3 Menehuene round one. Tommy was named “Scosche Performer of the Weekend” for the second straight time on the strength of another incredible performance!

Other big winners included Dryden Brown who clinched his first career win in the Explorer Juniors category in event 3. In addition Dryden made five finals with placings in both Men’s finals, both Juniors finals and the Airshow. A super impressive performance by our hard working Surfer/Scholar of the year! Dryden was named NSSA Surfer of the Week for his outstanding competitive effort. HB’s Davis Freud put together some solid heats in both events 3 & 4. After a third place showing in event 3, Davis put together some progressive moves to score his first win of the season in event 4.

The Men’s final winners in the doubleheader were split between two Ventura local boys. Bronson Wheelan claimed his first career NSSA victory taking the event 3 Mens final while Micky Clarke took his second win of the season in event 4. Ventura’s  young talent Eithan Osborne sealed his first win of the 2013-14 season in the event 4 Boys final.

In the Super Groms division, we saw two young shredders rise to the top of the podium to take their first wins in NSSA competition. Liam Osborne ripped his final in event 3 and Noah Steinmetz put forth his best surfing display in a NSSA event taking the event 4 win.

In the female categories, Malibu’s Frankie Seely clinched her first win of the season in the event 3 Womens final while Steffi Kerson ripped event 4 taking her third win of the season. In the Girls, Malia Faramarzi is on a tear claiming both event 3 & 4 victories and remains undefeated in Gold Coast Girls competition.

The Seniors division was again dominated by Cayucos powerhouse Tony Foster who has claimed four consecutive wins in Gold Coast competition.

Malibu’s Thelen Worrell boosted to victory in the Airshow final and also posted the highest scoring wave of the event-a 9.4 in the event 4 Men’s semifinals.
