CONGRATULATIONS 2013 EAST COAST REGIONAL CHAMPIONS!

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2013 EAST COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS

**The 21st annual NSSA East Coast Championships (ECC) saw nearly 500 hundred east coast contestants vying for Regional titles in one of the largest fields to compete at a Regional Championship event and the largest of the East Coast Championships.

**North Carolina’s Knox Harris claims his first major NSSA championship title winning the Open Men’s division. Harris also made the Explorer Men’s and Explorer Juniors finals.

**Harris took the victory on the strength of his excellent 9.17 score which was the highest scoring ride of the final.

**Florida’s Nikki Viesins sealed her second career victory in the Open Women’s division and her third overall East Coast Championship title. She won the Open Women’s in 2011 and also took the Explorer Women’s crown in 2010. At this event, Viesins was on fire, putting on a clinic in the final. On her first wave, she set the pace ripping an 8.0 ride and never looked back winning the final by a huge margin of victory.

**After coming up short in the Open Boys final with a runner up placing, Stevie Pittman stepped up his performance big-time in the Open Juniors destroying the final from the onset. His opening ride came in at a solid 7.27 and then he backed it up with an excellent 8.67. Undoubtedly a solid and impressive performance for the 12-year-old from Newport, North Carolina!

**12-year-old Robbie McCormick had a breakout performance at this year’s East Coast Championships. He not only made his first Regional finals, he took it all the way to the top with a two division sweep in the 12 & under Open Boys and Explorer Menehuene divisions!

**In the 10 & under categories, the victories were split between talented up-and-coming east coast groms Tommy Coleman who won the Open Mini Groms for the second consecutive yearand Noah Dovin who claimed his first Regional victory in the Super Groms. Coleman has now earned three career Regional titles.

**Maddie Peterson was one of the top standout female performers in New Smyrna Beach. She claimed double titles in the Open and Explorer Girls and also made the Open and Explorer Womens finals.

**In Longboard, Fisher Grant took command in both the Open and Explorer divisions. He successfully defended his Open Longboard titles from 2011 and 2012 with a solid performance in the final but it was his outstanding display in the Explorer Longboard final that impressed the judges posting up huge scores of 9.00 and 8.33 leaving his opponents in combo land.

**South Carolina’s Luke Gordon kept his Regional title win streak alive putting another Regional title in his growing list of surfing achievements. For four consecutive years, Gordon has been on the podium. He won the Open Boys division for three straight years 2010, 2011, 2012 and this year stepped up to the plate triumphing in the upper age bracket Explorer Juniors division.

**New Smyrna Beach local standout Noah Schweizer was back in the winners circle for the fourth straight year at the Regionals winning the Explorer Men’s division. The title was Schweizer’s fourth. His Regional victory stats include Explorer Juniors (2012), Airshow (2011) and Open Juniors in 2010)

**UNCW claimed their fifth consecutive East Coast Regional title but not without a tight battle from runner up FAU. UNCW squeaked out the victory by a one point margin taking the win over FAU by a score of 95-94!
