NSSA - National Scholastic Surfing Association

The National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage and assist its members in their interest to learn and develop the fundamentals and skills of surfing competition while competing in structured and quality events. The NSSA promotes the qualities of discipline and competitive excellence while supporting the merits of academic achievement to young surfers. The NSSA strives to provide a fun surfing experience for all of its members.

The NSSA is one of the few national youth sports organizations that require its participants to maintain academic standards in order to compete. Since 1978, the NSSA program philosophy has been that athletics and scholastics go hand in hand. More than 80 NSSA events are run nationwide that culminate with the annual National Championships which is regarded as the highest profile youth surfing event in America.

Highlights from NSSA Mid Atlantic event #6

 

Contest #6 was held at Crystal Pier in WrightsvilleBeach on March 10th.  Surfers competed in waist to chest high waves.   Conditions were awesome! Tyson Miller took 1st in Open Men and Boyd Brown finished 1st in Open Juniors.  Tripp Chandler had the highest scoring wave of the day in Open Boys Semi-final and an 8.0.  Carolina girl, Kathryn Neff had an outrageous day with a 1st place win in Open Girls and Explorer Girls.  Gabriel Morvil was pumped when he took 1st in Explorer Boys.  Our girl from South Carolina , Grace Muckenfuss was ripping with a 1st in Open Women and Explorer Women.  The Raynor boys clearly were on fire with Jake Raynor placing 1st in Explorer Juniors.   Jesse Raynor made it to the finals in Explorer Boys and Bo Raynor was shredding with a 1st place win in Open Boys and Explorer Menehuene.  Jack Brandon blew up with  1st place in Explorer Men where the competition was tough.  Gray Copenhaver finished 1st in Men’s Explorer Longboard with a solid win.  Open Mini-grom and Explorer Super Grom Laird Myers has had strong wins in every event this season! 

 

NSSA Mid- Atlantic will begin the 2013-2014 season in
