NSSA - National Scholastic Surfing Association

The National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage and assist its members in their interest to learn and develop the fundamentals and skills of surfing competition while competing in structured and quality events. The NSSA promotes the qualities of discipline and competitive excellence while supporting the merits of academic achievement to young surfers. The NSSA strives to provide a fun surfing experience for all of its members.

The NSSA is one of the few national youth sports organizations that require its participants to maintain academic standards in order to compete. Since 1978, the NSSA program philosophy has been that athletics and scholastics go hand in hand. More than 80 NSSA events are run nationwide that culminate with the annual National Championships which is regarded as the highest profile youth surfing event in America.

NSSA SOUTHEAST/NORTH CONFERENCE EVENT #6

New Smyrna Beach, FL

Southeast/North event #6 was held in small but contestable waves with breezy conditions.  Not only did the event see several surfers scoring double victories but we even had a few surfers stepping up with huge performances taking triple division wins! 2012 East Coast Regional Champion Corey Howell surfed back-to- back heats competing in both the Open and Explorer Men’s divisions taking the victories in both. He also took command in the Explorer Juniors final claiming his third triumph of the day. Another dominant performance was given by Jazmine Dean, who ruled it in three divisions taking wins in the Open Womens, Explorer Womens Longboard and Explorer Longboard. NSSA newcomer Emory McClery took home triple wins in  Explorer Womens and Open and Explorer Girls. Robbie McCormick was on fire at this event taking the victory in the Open Boys and then delivering a super impressive winning performance in the highly competitive Open Juniors division. DJ Buchanan took the win in the Explorer Boys and Ryan Conklin took first in Explorer Menehuene. The Open Mini-Grom victory went to little big man Kaleb Kirchenbaum. Southeast Conference competitor Blake Spear traveled to the Southeast/North event and made a statement taking the win in the Explorer Super Groms. 

 

The final event of the 2012-13 season for the season will be held March 17, 2013 at New Smyrna Beach Inlet. Looking forward to seeing everyone compete in the season finale and warm up for the upcoming NSSA Regional Championships April 4-7 in New Smyrna Beach.
