The National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage and assist its members in their interest to learn and develop the fundamentals and skills of surfing competition while competing in structured and quality events. The NSSA promotes the qualities of discipline and competitive excellence while supporting the merits of academic achievement to young surfers. The NSSA strives to provide a fun surfing experience for all of its members.

The NSSA is one of the few national youth sports organizations that require its participants to maintain academic standards in order to compete. Since 1978, the NSSA program philosophy has been that athletics and scholastics go hand in hand. More than 80 NSSA events are run nationwide that culminate with the annual National Championships which is regarded as the highest profile youth surfing event in America.

Surfer of the Week - 8/31/2015

JORDY COLLINS

Age: 16
Hometown: Carlsbad, California
School: San Diego Neighborhood HS: 11th grade
Sponsors: Hurley, Futures, Famous, Surf Ride, Bill Johnson Surfboards
Equipment: Bill Johnson shapes; 5'11" round tail
Claim to Fame: There is no better way than starting out the first contest weekend of the season with perfection. Just ask Jordy Collins who went on a tear in his first round Juniors heat at the Pacific Beach Explorer at Crystal Pier earning two perfect 10's for a perfect 20 wave score. Utilizing his strengths in the smallish 1-3 foot conditions, his progressive game was on point as he found the waves with ramp opporutnities and went to air with clean tail-high rotations. He went on to win the event and enter into the history books as one of the only surfers to accomplish this spectacular feat! Fave thing about Crystal Pier: the little left runners off the pier. Local spot: Ponto. Fave surfer: Kerzy & John John. Fave NSSA surfer: Alyssa Spencer, she's inspiring. Fantasy super power: To breath underwater. Something people don't know about you: I can juggle. Goal: To win a Conference Title.
